I arrived in Yunguilla six months ago overwhelmed by its beauty only to discover more in the hearts of the community members. I was welcomed with open arms, treated like family, which makes it very difficult to leave. I would like to wish the best of luck to this community and their projects. They deserve only the best! I hope to return someday and will carry all of my memories and all that I have learned back with me to Canada!
With lots of love...

Things I will miss about Yunguilla... The clouds at night, resting at the bottom of the valley, the beautiful landscape; hearing Coco singing as he waltzes down the path; eating soup with the families in a smokey kitchen as the cuyes run underfoot; Germán saying "entonces"; watching the stars; eating delicious organic food; working with the women's collectives; playing hop-scotch with Mercy; friendship and smiles.
Things I won't miss about Yunguilla... having the garden grubs rubbed on my back to fix sore muscles, eating pig intestines, tree-planting... but hey, such is life.
...but really... I so appreciate all the experiences I've had here. The friendships, experiencing a different life, experiencing community and watching sustainability at work. Thank you all so much for everything. I know I´ll always look back fondly on my time here.

Yunguilla is a place of so many beauties, from the magnificent view of the volcano Cotacachi in the mornings, to the small orchids along side of the road. And to match that, the people of Yunguilla are wonderful at opening up their community to people from all parts of the world. Walking down the road or up the hill on the path, I would almost always end up conversing with three or four people on the way to my destination. And staying their for four months, I have made relationships with people of all ages within the community who have truly impacted me by their friendliness and the new perspectives they have shared with me. I will never, ever forget them and will surely come back. There´s no way I can ever pay them back for what they have given to me. |
