The Young people in the community have always been motivated and hard working. Seeing what the other groups of people were doing in the community, we also wanted to work directly towards a better community. We looked at different alternatives and on our own and through projects at high school we started the business: “Yunguilla dairy products”. Just as with the women’s group, later we too became shareholders of the Yunguilla Corporation.
Before we delivered milk to the dairy factory, each family would make their own cheese at home and each family would have to sell or deliver it outside the community. Working together it is less work for each family. We have also diversified ad now we make yogurt and “manjar” too.
Our cheese is made from whole milk, a little salt and rennet, we don’t put in anything extra, ensuring a very natural product. We estimate that every pound of cheese contains around 3.5 liters of milk all from our sustainably managed cattle here in the community. Nothing is wasted in the process because all of the whey is given back to community members for feeding animals or making other products. Family owned cattle here in the community are free to roam and we strive to keep them healthy without the use of anti- biotics, hormones etc. For these reasons we are proud to produce Yunguilla dairy products and dynamize our local economy!
